The airport is in Dammam, which is near the headquarters of oil giant Saudi Aramco. For weeks, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi militia has been attacking the kingdom’s aviation and energy sectors.
The attack came after the Yemeni militia warned it would attack the headquarters of Aramco. The Saudi-led coalition said it was targeting Houthi capabilities.
