The first deportation flight to Haiti since the US supreme court upheld Donald Trump’s power to strip 350,000 Haitians – and others – of a key type of legal status in the US landed in the troubled nation on Thursday.
The flight was carrying more that 160 Haitian nationals and landed in Cap-Haïtien, Haiti’s second-largest city, aboard an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) charter.
Les autorités haïtiennes ont annoncé que des élections présidentielles et législatives seraient organisées prochainement.
Le premier tour des deux scrutins aurait lieu en décembre; le second tour, en février.
Le respect de ce calendrier dépendra toutefois, précise un communiqué, de la capacité d’Haïti à:
établir «un climat sécuritaire acceptable»;
disposer des fonds nécessaires pour les opérations électorales.
